Quality, Health, Safety & Environment Manager

(QSHE)

Description

Due to our rapid growth; we are currently looking for a full time QHSE Manager to join our team. The ability to interact with staff in a fast paced environment, while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to this role.

Detailed duties include:

Quality

• Development and implementation of the Quality standards, managements systems and policy & procedures;
• Maintain the Quality Management System to ensure the continuous improvement business model is achieved, including the development of supporting Standards and Procedures and maintenance of all related documentation;
• Report to top management on the performance of the Quality management system and areas for improvement;
• Promote and create awareness for compliance of customer Quality requirements, regulatory and
industry requirements, and internal company guidelines throughout the organization;
• Manage Quality objectives, targets, aspects and programs locally, participate in global quality projects as required;
• Ensure the effectiveness of the Quality management system;
• Update/control/maintain Quality related documents and records;
• Annually review the Quality Management System through a standardized corporate internal audit process;
• Schedule and manage all audits, coordinate with all Departments and HQ as required (i.e. ISO 9001 etc.). Analyze and interpret audit results and introduce and control resulting actions required.
• Conduct Quality related orientations and trainings to all level employees;
• Strive to instill and continually improve Quality assurance mindset within the company culture;
• Fill out Quality related questionnaires and provide support documentation for proposals and RFP’s.

Health, Safety & Environment

• Maintain and ensure effectiveness of the HSE Management System to ensure the continuous improvement business model is achieved, including the development of supporting Standards and Procedures;
• Implementation of Corporate HSE policy and procedures locally, as well as development of local policies and procedures (including HSE Manual) as applicable;
• Develop, manage and maintain QHSE related items at all levels (emergency evacuation to corporate initiatives);
• Report to top management on the performance of the HSE management system and any need for improvement;
• Promote and create awareness for compliance of customer HSE requirements, regulatory and
industry requirements, and internal company guidelines throughout the organization;
• Manage HSE objectives, targets, aspects and programs across all business areas;
• Identify, develop and communicate key OH&S and/or OSHA and other regulatory requirements;
• Update/control/maintain QHSE documents and records;
• Create annual business plan for QHSE;
• Annually review the HSE Management System through a standardized corporate internal audit process;
• Schedule and manage all audits, including Certificate of Recognition (COR) and coordinate with all Departments and HQ as required. Analyze and interpret audit results and introduce and control resulting actions required.
• Perform internal audits, represent the company in external audits, maintain inspection and audit records;
• Conduct regular site inspections including office, shop and field;
• Identify PPE requirements across business areas and maintain inventories;
• Maintain Safety KPIs;
• Maintain relationships with relevant external partnerships related to workplace health, safety and environment;
• Develop an annual business plan to ensure the HSE Management System meets business and legislated requirements;
• Maintain ISNetworld, WCB and related databases including maintaining records of hours worked etc.;
• Reviewing near misses, incidents, investigation, reporting (utilizing applicable SHARE program etc.), communication of lessons learned and supporting the follow-up;
• Conduct HSE orientations and trainings to all level employees (new hires and existing as applicable), including orientations specific to each business area;
• Strive to instill and continually improve HSE mindset within the company culture;
• Fill out HSE related questionnaires and provide support documentation for proposals and RFP’s.

Requirements

Qualifications or Skills Required:
The successful candidate should have the minimum qualifications and/or skills:

• A minimum of 5-7 years of directly related Quality Management and Health, Safety & Environment Management experience is required.
• Related post-secondary certification is required.
• Experience related to managing all aspects related to QHSE across business areas (including office, manufacturing/production facility, maintenance workshop and field operations) is required.
• Advanced knowledge of HSE Auditing (COR etc.), Quality Management Systems Auditing and Internal Auditor Designations (ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001).
• Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proven ability to influence and motivate employees, management and contractors to meet the company QHSE goals.
• Strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities and changes with professionalism.
• Ability to proactively problem-solve.
• Adapt to frequently changing schedules and tight timelines.
• Excellent internal and external customer relations skills.
• Work independently, as well as within a team, in a fast paced, customer service driven team environment.
• Superior organization and time management skills.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Experience with SAP an asset.
• Leads by example, demonstrates a positive QHSE attitude.
• Candidate must have knowledge of federal, provincial and local HS&E regulations.
• Clean class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and Drivers Abstract is required.
• Experience operating a forklift and other warehouse equipment.
